So today I was chatting with a good friend and business partner of mine (@Farzad_Taghavi) and he shared a great story with me, what I am about to share with you guys. Here is the story:
One day I hopped in a taxi and we took off for the airport.
We were driving in the right lane when suddenly a black car
jumped out of a parking space right in front of us.
My taxi driver slammed on his brakes, skidded, and missed the other car
by just inches!
The driver of the other car whipped his head around
and started yelling at us.
My taxi driver just smiled and waved at the guy.
And I mean, he was really friendly.
So I asked, ‘Why did you just do that?
This guy almost ruined your car and sent us to the hospital!’
This is when my taxi driver taught me what I now call,
‘The Law of the Garbage Truck.’
He explained that many people are like garbage trucks.
They run around full of garbage, full of frustration, full of anger,
and full of disappointment.
As their garbage piles up, they need a place to dump it
and sometimes they’ll dump it on you.
Don’t take it personally.
Just smile, wave, wish them well, and move on.
Don’t take their garbage and spread it to other people at work, at home,
or on the streets.
The bottom line is that successful people do not let garbage trucks
take over their day.
Life’s too short to wake up in the morning with regrets, so …
Love the people who treat you right.
Pray for the ones who don’t.
Life is ten percent what you make it
and ninety percent how you take it!
I am in a learning curve, feeling empowered everyday and applying this same law to my daily life. Sometimes I have my ups and sometimes my downs, but in the days I have my downs I think and visualize my days when I have my ups and it all feels better.
Hope that you learned something from this.
Wish you the best,
Yannick van den Bos

Thanks for the awesome story. This is quite true for most people. If you read Dale Carnegie’s, “How to Win Friends, and Influence People” you’ll see how people like Lincoln transformed their life by switching their dispositions. Attitude is one of the most important factors of success.

Wow, I’ve just found a way of avoiding other people’s gabbage. True some people are literally “waiting” to dump their gabbage on other people.

I love this story, it holds so much truth. I try not to take anything personal…my moto is “let it go…Let it flow, be in the know.
I know that Love is the answer to every question! Well, that’s my story and I sticking to it!

Great Stuff Yannick, I know this in my heart and remind myself, BUT in practice…it’s not always as easy as it should be. I’m a work in progress.
Thanks my friend…

Hi Yannick,
I drove many, many miles during my life’s journey in Europe and the US. It is such a great tool to be in the flow of high vibrating energy. I learned to bless situations like that and most of the time I can do it. When I discover anger comes up focusing on words of a blessing or words of a mantra are changing my/your emotions immediately.

Thanks for posting this great story! My name is Dawn, and I work with David J. Pollay, the author of The Law of the Garbage Truck™. I just wanted to stop by and let you know that you can read the original story on David’s blog, http://davidjpollay.typepad.com/david_j_pollay/lawofthegarbagetruck.html. It would mean a lot to us if you would let people know that David is the author of The Law of the Garbage Truck.
Make sure to check out the video of people in New York City taking the No Garbage Trucks!™ Pledge: www.bewareofgarbagetrucks.com. It’s pretty cool.
Thanks again!

Hey Yannick! Thanks for sharing the story! It’s funny how much of a difference it can make to live this way.
Today I was driving to my sister’s house to watch her two girls so that she could go to a doctor appointment and I got stuck behind a car that was driving painfully below the speed limit. I felt myself start to get annoyed by how slow he was driving, and then I remembered that I had a choice in how I responded to the situation.
I took a deep breath and decided that I was not going to let driving a little slower than I would like affect my mood.
Thanks for the great reminder!

Rather superb entry, definitely useful stuff. Never ever considered I’d find the facts I need right here. I have been looking everywhere in the internet for some time now and had been starting to get discouraged. Fortunately, I happened across your blog and received precisely what I was searching for.
